14 going on 30!

Read this blog (http://www.blinman.com/before30.htm) and got thinking.(my score is 10 on this list)

There were things i wanted to to do before i was thirty when i was a kid and now that the target is close, i have a different list. Now the first list may seem basic to a lot of people but this is what i wanted when i was 14 ,in a small town school with a middle class upbringing.

1. Get a JOb - Check..those were the days when unemployment(among cousins) was rife
2. Complete my education (Masters/Phd) - Check
3. Drive a car - Check
4. Become tall - partial check
5. Get proposed - Check
6. Propose to someone - Check
7. Make it work - PHEW..now i am totally making this up..always thought it would work as in fair tales and movies
7. Impress your boss with your talent - Nope and no chance
8. Write a dairy - partial check...blogging and twittering count dont they ??
9. Sing in front of a crowd - Nope and no Chance
10. Impress Parents - DONE atleast partially in my opinion....seriously.

Now here's my current list and Status

1. Travel to all continents in the world - Africa, South America, Antarctica and Australia to go
2. Own a convertable
3. Play the guitar
4. Spend more than my monthly income on a single gadget
5. Jump off a airplane
6. Cook a meal for more than 20 people
7. Win a drinking contest
8. Do Volunteer work
9. Own a killer looking apartment
10. Quit job on whim and go travelling

Marriage….WHY ???

Got cornered by my aunts yesterday about when and who I shall marry. Well imagine my state when four battle hardened ladies who make you sit in a easy chair in the corner of a small room and pull chairs all around and bombard you with questions about your future. When? Who? Why so Late? Wanna be bald before you marry? You are no longer Young now? You earn enuf? Any painful break-ups? Anyone we should know about? Can we start searching?

All that torture finally got me thinking…. WHY?

Have listed the options here and frankly I care a hoot for what people think but if you are a well-mannered, courteous, civilized, polite, decent MORON. Please stop reading.
So again, Marriage….WHY ???

  • Companionship: I get bored while I am lazing around my room on a Saturday but that’s how I unwind. And while I love company don’t you like having your own space? And I have enough friends who know when to come over and when to leave but marriage would actually mean that I have to put up with her for life. Read this to see the irony!
  • Dowry: Well I shall not steep down so low after living through a comfortable life till date (fingers crossed). Also it comes within our family that we abhor the very concept of dowry even though it remains the single reason why the education industry is thriving around the globe.
  • The Dreaded word which got Sania Mirza and Khusboo into trouble, SEX : well you get a lot of variety outside wedlock, try being decent looking, owning a car and having cash to burn (esp. for a condom). Not that I am about to do any one of these, but I can still hypothesise.
  • Procreation: Well with the population of India being what it is, I can be a true India ala rang-de-basanti and do my bit for the country by not contributing.
  • Children: you can have one without getting married again hypothetically esp. in India but I have nieces and nephews to fill that void and love them, so it really does not make a difference.
  • As hard as I tried I could not come up with another reason and excuse.

So let me come to the first point again, WHY?????

A Phone call

D: Hey you all rite?

ME: Ya why the question?

D: you have not blogged for ages now, so I thought you were sick or dying or something like that (in a hopeful tone)

ME: Nothing like that, I have been too busy.

D: Like I believe that

ME: seriously

D: So what are you doing now?

ME: I am in Bangalore, Chilling

D: I thought you were transferred to Hyderabad

ME: Yes, but I had come down for the weekend

D: And you want me to believe that you were too busy

ME: well……………

Anyway since the rest of the conversation went on equally boring terms I shall stop. And I am mainly writing this blog as a tribute to all those vela Junta who follow this stupid blog and have the temerity to ask me why I have not been blogging.

Here’s why?

Shifted to Cyberabad – Now get calls every minute about some escalation or the other- have numbers to deal with- staying out of my car/suitcase as I have found no abode for myself- still single and painfully so onto the 26th year of my existence- and have work now so cannot blog regularly.

So here’s to Velagiri .

God how I miss being Vela!!!!

Awesome Year

Saw snippets of the BEST and Worst of the year in most websites so came up with this post about my year.
In 2005 I :

  • Finished my post graduation and with that hopefully came to the end of the road of my academic career.
  • Conned Wipro, Intel, MBT, Vistasoft, IBM, Covansys and I-Gate into giving me job offers. 7 offers to work (never knew I was so wanted)
  • Started working and more importantly EARNING.
  • Started taking a Bath everyday and a shave every two days (unwelcome change from IIT days when the periodic activity for the same was fortnightly and monthly respectively).
  • Got my first Bonus.
  • Bought my Mom a Really Nice Present.
  • Learnt Cooking with successful results.
  • Cut down on excesses due to a Bad Back aka Slip Disk (Now you can speculate about what excesses are :-D)
  • Saw a VERY Close friend get married and put his life in order.
  • Tried playing Cupid with mixed results
  • Spent a year SINGLE and loved every moment of it. (i.e. Became a bigger Geela)
  • Joined a GYM for an obscene amount and went there thrice ..to date.
  • Invested in Mutual Funds and Insurance (Ahem…running out of things to write)
  • Started BLOGGING

In Effect…grown up (both mentally and physically)
Hope the coming year will be as fruitful (AHEM) to you.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Writing all this with a slight hangover due to a pub called "Legends of rock" where Karan, Hoosh and i tried to get wasted yesterday. Had a long conversation with a ST after that and covered so many topics that i felt i cannot talk to her any more. But being the chatterbox that i am, started off today morning again.

Why do i Blog?

Because of the fact that I claim to be a Blog addict and am most certainly not, added to the fact that I am hopelessly lazy, I could not post a proper blog last week. But today I started writing this and as usual, I had no clue about what to write. So I thought I shall blog for the Blog of it and if anyone reads this, well!! not my problem.

Well blogging for me is a stress reliever and after talking to my boss for about 3 hours, I guess I have the right to torture other people with musings like this. Now let’s get to the 4 stages of browsing as it’s popularly known.

Well for me it started as it does for most guys/gals during graduation years when you have time and money to kill along with a small problem called a hormonal overgrowth (people might smirk saying this is too late but what we Indians lack in one aspect, we make up in another. Look at the population growth for Crying out loud). After discovering the joys of internet back during pre graduation and discovering things which frankly are still the most educating courses of any person’s lives. For convenience sake (and the lack of a proper sex education in India) I call this stage “The Enlightenment”.

People move into the next stage to see if they could actually get to do all that they have seen. This stage is known as the chatting stage where people try their hand in communicating the fact that they are cool. Most people tend to find nameless, faceless people more interesting and scintillating than people right in front of you. Thankfully I was young enough to be scared so as not to actually getting around towards meeting the fellow chatters, else I am sure that opinion I had on them to be scintillating would also rapidly change.

Google helped me when I was above the Communication stage so lets call this stage simply “Google”. Well if you ever reach a stage in your life and you don’t know what to do, try searching the answer on Google as it always helps. If not directly atleast it gives you a distraction and keeps you occupied. The irrelevant can turn out to be very very relevant and vice versa which actually distresses you.

Finally Blogging, well who else will even listen to my continuos cribs/complaints except jobless morons like you. So for your benefit (and mine lest I become crazy) I write these crappy monologues which are defined for literary sense as Blogs or Live journals. So for your Sake and mine BLOG, BLOG, BLOG.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with Politics today?

Actually the real question is "Can someone tell me whats wrong with ME today?"

I am so bored, i actually started blogging.

So let me speak my mind, well if you do not mind me saying so!!!!!

I read the paper today and was appaled by the fact that a cabinet minister holds so much power that he can have his state legislature dissolved even when the president of the country is out of the country. All this because he wants to hold on to power at anycost(needless to say, just to delay the investigations into various scams that he is embrioled in!!! ).

The apparent non functional nature of the prime minister and the remote control of a foriegn woman who does know a thing about politics, makes me think, why did people elect them?

Was it because of the colour of thier skin?
Was it beacuse of thier name(How are they Gandhi's BTW )?
Is it an unfulfilled cherished dream of Indians to have a Royal Family(at any costs)?

Well whatever the reason, all i can think of now is another 6 months of fighting over seats, infighting within the party and monumental costs for the tax payer as Bihar gets ready for another election.

Well atleast its TIME PASS.........for vela people like me.
